Furniture.

I went to Crate & Barrel (Outlet) today and bought a bookshelf. It was only $50 but it's obviously a nice piece of furniture. And its nice-ness penetrates the rest of the room, just a little bit. The area around it just feels nicer. How does wood have this effect on us? And what does nice mean?
