The mistress

I've had good luck in the Burgundy sweepstakes recently, so I might as well document them.
1999 Maison Leroy Savigny Les Serpentieres 1er cru: Really delicious right now. The fruit has come forward and is just starting to develop some secondary notes, there is great mass of (distinctly Savigny) earthy flavors in the mid-palate, and the wine finishes with a lot of freshness and very fine tannins. I had a bottle of this about 18 months ago, and it was bit of a fearsome, tannic beast. I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly it's come around. As you can imagine, this worked very well with the Roast Chicken.
2005 d'Angerville Volnay 1er cru: This is a very formidable wine. While the nose is quite expressive and refined, the palate is an impenetrable wall of stone. There is an impressive amount of material and pungent minerality here, but it's all locked up at the moment.
